Laundry Money for Our Kids

Laundry Money '26

Every year, we have about 200 homeless students in our school system, which is quite startling. Due to the recent government shutdown, many families lost their SNAP benefits and have faced delays in reapplying. During a Task Force meeting led by Mayor Theresa Rich, Operation Common Good mentioned a pressing need for quarters for laundromats. Families are struggling to afford basic necessities and also need to tackle laundry, as dirty clothes can lead to cruel comments from peers.

I visited a laundromat at Orchard Lake and 13 Mile, where washing a large load costs $8 and drying is around $5. While I’m not asking for quarters (as those can go into the offering buckets), I would greatly appreciate any cash donations—$1, $5, or $10—that you feel comfortable giving. I’ll have a basket at the Welcome Center labeled "Laundry Money for Our Kids." Thank you for your generosity during this season of giving! If you have any questions, please call me.

Thank you,

Pat Lange
